19. Decompose your leftovers

In the United States, 31% of food is wasted but never eaten, adding up to £133 billion. This should never happen, given how many people are homeless and hungry. Unfortunately, along with other waste, a lot of the food ends up in a landfill. If you live in an apartment and don Patrick has anywhere to place your leftovers, you likely feel as if you have no choice but to put it in the trash. But most community gardens will have a compost program.

If you’re willing to buy yourself a compost bin to keep in the kitchen, food waste can be taken to your local program. And if you’ve got a big backyard, you can make an outdoor compost pile that can be used to fertilize your garden. This is a way to reduce waste.
