Blue-green algae poisoning is more common than you think. So far, there have been quite a few reports from the ASPCA about poisonings this year. Owners should keep dogs away from standing drinking water in ponds, lakes, or other bodies of water.

On the other side, wash your dog thoroughly with fresh water after playtime. Blue-green algae cells could stick to their hair and skin. Contact your public health department, which will regularly test the water in areas with blue-green algae outbreaks.
