2. Receive credit reports
A mortgage does not require perfect credit, but it requires that you not leave a big mark on your credit report. Before a prospective lender looks at your credit report, you can get a free copy and review it.
If there’s anything in your report that you think shouldn’t be there, start calling and emailing to get your credit. If there are any accounts open, for example, from old credit cards, close them. Such small changes can help boost your credit report.
