Joining the Amish Community

Becoming a part of an Amish community as an outsider entails a rigorous and structured process. Those who wish to join must first learn and fully adopt the traditional language of Pennsylvania Dutch.

They are required to live with an Amish family and wholeheartedly embrace Amish customs, immersing themselves in the community’s way of life. Finally, their acceptance into the community is determined by a vote among its members. Importantly, this transition necessitates leaving behind modern technology and customs to fully integrate into the Amish community.
