Édith Piaf
Édith Piaf, the renowned French singer, may have famously sung “Je Ne Regrette Rien,” but she likely regrets how her life unfolded. At 16, she became pregnant and put her musical aspirations to work in a factory on hold. By 17, Édith gave birth to a daughter named Marcelle.
Despite becoming a mother, Édith continued to focus on her career and social life, often leaving her newborn baby Marcelle alone in a hotel room in Paris while she performed and socialized. When her partner, Louis Dupont, discovered this, he took it upon himself to rescue and care for their daughter. Tragically, Marcelle’s life was cut short when she succumbed to meningitis at the tender age of two.
