Shirley MacLaine’s relationship with her daughter, Stephanie Sachiko Parker, known as Sachi, was consistently strained. When Sachi was young, Shirley received kidnapping threats, which led to the decision to send her daughter to live in Japan with her father and his mistress.
Shirley’s busy filming and touring kept her away from her daughter for most of the year, with only occasional visits during Christmas and holidays.
