King James Did Everything To Prove The Boy’s Legitimacy

Despite Anne’s skepticism, King James spared no effort in proving the legitimacy of his son’s birth. Summoning around 40 witnesses to attest to the event, he conducted a Privy Council meeting to confirm the young heir’s legitimacy. Anne, claiming pregnancy as an excuse, opted out of the meeting.

King James, unaware of his daughter’s doubts, sent depositions from the witnesses to convince her, but Anne remained resolute in her refusal to acknowledge the legitimacy of her half-brother. Little did King James know, his relentless efforts to secure his heir’s position would soon be overshadowed by the impending challenges to his own reign.
