Queen of Bling
Catherine the Great’s reign was characterized by opulence and a penchant for showcasing her power through extravagant displays. One of the most notable examples was the commissioning of Russia’s official imperial crown, an incredibly adorned symbol of her authority. Inspired by the crown of the legendary Byzantine Empire, this regal masterpiece remained in use until the fall of the Romanov dynasty in the early 20th century.
In addition to the imperial crown, Catherine left an indelible mark with the creation of the Amber Room in the Catherine Palace. The room, adorned with gold leaf and mirrors, achieved legendary status and was considered by some as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Catherine’s dedication to grandeur and splendor solidified her reputation as a queen with a taste for the extravagant.
