Twinning

Twins can be formed in one of two ways. In the first scenario, a woman releases two eggs instead of the usual one, and each egg is fertilized by a different sperm, resulting in fraternal twins.

Alternatively, identical twins are formed when a woman produces a single egg that undergoes division after fertilization. The embryo grows and divides into identical twins during the initial weeks following conception. However, in the case of conjoined twins, this division process is incomplete, leading to the development of a partially divided egg that develops into a conjoined fetus.
