28. Shrubs and neat fences
Much of the shaping and pruning of hedges and shrubs should occur when the tree is dormant in the fall or early spring. However, it would help if you did it in the summer to see the shrubs and hedges in their completely deciduous form.
If shrubs and hedges have flowers, wait until the flowers bloom before proceeding with pruning. Never prune a tree while it is flowering or bearing fruit, as it can cause stress on the tree. Newly grown trees should not be pruned too much, as this also shocks the tree.
