14. Stock up too much

Reddit user BlinkDragon explains their hoarding story (or maybe a thrifty spender?) Here: “My roommate’s dad is a bit hoarder and uses her as one excuse to hoard everything. As a result, whenever she visits her parents, she typically brings home many dishes, usually four to eight. In a three-person house living here for about a year, we never (or rarely) had to buy: laundry detergent, meat, pasta sauces, sauces, vegetable oils, salt, and Crisco. He also gave us a lot of pasta over the years. Unfortunately, he did not accept the request.

It is an example that it can quickly be taken both ways. Most of the ones listed are non-perishable (laundry detergent) or have a long shelf life (pasta, pasta sauce, salt, oil). These items can sometimes be sold for super liquidation prices, or if you buy things like these in bulk, you can get substantial savings that way too. When you purchase items like this in bulk (canned goods and other household items), a roommate usually buys them every time she visits her parents. Alternatively, they may be required shoppers.
