13. You cannot help everyone

A Reddit user who is afraid of trains writes, “My mother’s family (her parents and her brother) are hoarders. They buy so many things that they don’t have a room all the time, and they never even open half of it. Rats and cockroaches infiltrated their homes, and they had rotting food everywhere. I tried to help the grandparents once, and my mom tried to help them many times, but in the end, they wouldn’t let us throw away anything of them, and even if they did, they would do it again the same thing. We don’t go there anymore. It’s sad, but if they don’t want help, there is nothing they can do. I doubt the situation will never be resolved in any real way ”.

You cannot help everyone

It’s a pity that you are dealing with family and don’t want to receive help. Sometimes we feel like we have taken all the necessary steps to help someone, then they seek help for themselves. Usually, this won’t happen until there is a severe health risk involved, sometimes too late. The best you can do is stay supportive, but you cannot hold any guilt if they are unwilling to help. They also need to help themselves.
