22. Elvis ‘Pets
Elvis is known to many for his love of animals. He made a lot of furry friends during his time in Graceland. The space for animals covers nearly 14 acres of land. Gladys – his mother – raises chickens, and in them is Elvis’ pet turkey named Bowtie. Elvis’s father, Vernon, raised pigs and used a smokehouse to cure pork before it became a shooting range. He kept donkeys for a while. When the fence around Graceland was under construction, they lived in the new, empty swimming pool.
A few of his exotic animals didn’t last long in Graceland. He received twice a small wall from fans in Australia. They donated to the Memphis Zoo, along with some of the peacocks that live on the property. The peacocks get scratches on their reflection in the paint on Elvis’s car, so they’re better off at the zoo. Scatter was an Elvis chimpanzee that lived in Graceland for a time until it became unmanageable. Presley’s also has many dogs, including Basset Hound, Great Danes, Chow Chow, and Pomeranian.
