Venting Students

While keeping emotions in check is the norm in Swedish conversations, bottling up feelings can have its downsides. Life can be stressful, especially for students, and finding an outlet to release steam becomes crucial for maintaining well-being.

At Uppsala University, a unique tradition called ‘The Flogsta Scream’ has emerged. Students gather at their windows every evening at 10 pm and join in a collective cathartic scream. This phenomenon has spread to other cities like Lund and certain student housing areas in Stockholm. Students view these collective screams as a way to cope with the pressures of university life.
