Surf’s Up
This restroom sign at least acknowledges that women can enjoy sports, but it manages to be offensive. Jump rope is often associated with females, especially children, but it’s important to recognize that many women excel in sports like surfing.
Using sports for the women’s bathroom design is fine, but there’s room for improvement in avoiding stereotypes. The sign’s choice of a schoolgirl sport for women and a seemingly more challenging activity for men perpetuates gender stereotypes.
