22. Petunias

There are at least 35 species of petunia native to South America but have reached North America and elsewhere. This flower needs to thrive at least five to six hours of sunlight a day, which can be difficult on cloudy and rainy days. They also need good drainage, which helps ensure the soil is as healthy as possible. They do not tolerate frost well.

This flower can be between 6 inches and 4 feet tall, depending on the variety you plant. They may have heart-shaped leaves, which are often one of their strongest selling points. They bloom in spring and fall and come in white, yellow, red, pink, or purple.
