At just 18, she married banker Claude-Eric Lazard, a union that lasted nine years. Shortly after their divorce, Steel married Danny Zugelder.
Her third marriage to William Toth lasted three years. In 1981, she wed wine merchant John Traina, a relationship that endured until 1998. Later in the same year, Steel married her fifth husband, Silicon Valley financier Tom Perkins. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in divorce in 2022.
