Despite his professional success, Perry grappled with addiction privately. He openly discussed his struggles with alcohol and Vicodin abuse, which began following a 1997 Jet Ski accident. An autopsy report, released two months after his untimely passing, revealed that Perry’s cause of death was due to the “acute effects of ketamine.” Contributing factors included drowning, coronary artery disease, and the impact of buprenorphine, a medication used in opioid use disorder treatment.
