28. Nelly’s mansion lay empty for 20 years

Nelly- the millionaire rapper – rose to fame after releasing the hit single “Hot in Here” in the early 2000s. Now, Nelly is worth $40 million. After rising to fame, he purchased a Tuscan-style mansion for $2 million in St. Louis, Missouri. It covers 12 acres and lacks nothing in terms of a luxurious lifestyle. Nelly got into real estate by buying this mansion. Besides, he planned the reinforcement and tried to profit from it. It has a basketball court, a swimming pool, walking trails, etc., and exceptional mountain views. It would easily be a $2 million home in Los Angeles.

But things didn’t go as he wanted because real estate prices were not uniform across the country. Nelly had no equity because he paid too much for what the property was worth. Therefore, investing in it turn out to be a big waste. The house has stayed empty for almost 20 years. While Nelly was tired of pouring more money into the house, he wasn’t in a hurry to sell it either. In the end, he decided to list the six-bedroom home in February 2021 for $600,000 despite the housing market being at its peak.
