Growing increasingly aware that her physical appearance had opened doors in Hollywood, Marilyn became intensely self-conscious.
To preserve her everyday persona and career, she kept certain aspects of herself hidden, such as her love for reading and her occasional use of glasses. Consequently, she rarely, if ever, wore glasses in public, believing it would help maintain her image.
