20. The Curious Case of the Giant Honey Bees

In the region of Jhenaidah, honey hunters engage in a dangerous tradition—harvesting honey from the nests of giant honey bees, locally known as “mammoth bees” or “wild bees.” These bees are the largest in the world, with wingspans reaching up to 3.5 cm. The honeycombs they build, often attached to cliffs or trees, can be as large as several meters long.

Harvesting honey from these nests requires bravery and skill, as the bees can be aggressive when disturbing their homes. The tradition of honey hunting passed down through generations, offers a glimpse into the unique relationship between humans and these colossal insects.
