#46: Kindness and Creativity During the Great Depression
The Great Depression pushed families into survival mode. Money was scarce, jobs were disappearing, and people were forced to stretch every resource as far as possible. Recycling and reusing weren’t environmental buzzwords — they were survival strategies.

Clothing was patched, jars were reused, furniture was repaired, and nothing was thrown away unless it was completely ruined. Today, upcycling and sustainability are values people choose to embrace, not necessities forced by hardship. It’s a privilege to treat eco-friendly living as a lifestyle instead of a lifeline.
