#77: Coffee’s Power Might Be in Your Head — Literally
Coffee is practically its own food group for many people. Even if you don’t love the taste, you might still crave that jolt of alertness it brings. What’s fascinating is that simply smelling coffee can trigger feelings of wakefulness for some people.

Part of this is psychological. Our brains associate the smell and taste of coffee with productivity, focus, and “time to wake up.” Caffeine still has real physiological effects, of course, but the ritual and expectation around coffee are powerful by themselves. Knowing this won’t stop most of us from downing that 4 p.m. cup.
