Lies With Embarrassing Details

When telling a little white lie — perhaps to get out of an event or avoid a task — adding an embarrassing detail can make the lie seem more believable. People tend to trust stories that include small, self-deprecating elements because they make the lie feel more authentic.

For example, if you’re canceling plans, you might say, “I would love to come, but I accidentally spilled coffee all over my only clean outfit.” Just be careful not to overuse this tactic, as repeated lying can erode trust.
