A Man With a Mission

Marvin Heemeyer had a mission that led him to build a fearsome machine known as the “Killdozer.” This custom-made bulldozer was equipped with steel plate armor, featuring three makeshift gun ports housing various rifles. On June 4, 2004, Heemeyer unleashed his destructive creation upon his town, plowing through the concrete plant next to his shop and making a menacing approach toward City Hall. His path of destruction included wrecking a newspaper office, the former mayor’s residence, a hardware store, and other properties.

However, Heemeyer’s rampage met an unexpected end when the bulldozer treads stuck, halting his destructive course. In a tragic conclusion to his mission, he pulled out a handgun and took his own life. As investigators delved into the aftermath, they uncovered a chilling detail in the bulldozer’s cab—a list containing the names of everyone involved in rezoning his property, revealing his intent to seek revenge on them all. Thankfully, there were no fatalities, but the incident left a lasting, bitter memory in the town’s history.
