Keep It In The Families

Two American families, the Hatfields from West Virginia and the McCoys from Kentucky, embroiled themselves in a bitter and long-lasting feud. Both families believed they were seeking revenge for past wrongs, and this vendetta resulted in numerous casualties on both sides. Their conflict culminated at the end of the nineteenth century, becoming infamously known as the “1888 New Year’s Night Massacre.”

The label “1888 New Year’s Night Massacre” scarcely captures the magnitude of the horrific event during this feud. The bitter hatred between the Hatfields and the McCoys led to the creation of a deeply tragic and blood-soaked chapter in American history, marked by the loss of lives and a relentless vendetta that tore a community apart.
