Graycliff in Frank Lloyd Wright design
Experience Graycliff

13. Graycliff

Known as the “Jewel on the Lake,” Graycliff is located in Buffalo, New York, overlooking Lake Erie. This is one of Wright’s most ambitious summer properties, as it is a three-building complex set over an eight-acre landscape. The largest building is Isabelle R. Martin House, which has transparent glass walls so that you can see the lake through the building. The Foster House is intended to be used as a garage and a private chauffeur apartment. Heat Hut is the smallest building and was built from rock taken from the shores of Lake Erie.

Wright also designed the building’s landscape, including the tennis court and the surrounding trees and bushes. Since being built over the years, Graycliff has undergone numerous maintenance repairs and is currently open to tours. It is now known as a State Landmark of New York.
