4. Storer House
Storer House is a beautiful structure situated in Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills. This house is remarkable as it is one of four places designed by Wright in the Mayan style. It was constructed for the homeopathic doctor, Dr. John Storer, in 1923. Wright used the unique woven block design to make the house appear like an extension of the surrounding landscape.
Storer House’s design is mainly Mayan-inspired columns, tall narrow windows, and a large living room upstairs. Wright’s son, Lloyd, worked on the project as the construction manager and landscape architect, creating a lush home setting. The National Registry of Historic Sites added the Archives to its roster in 1971. Fun fact: Hollywood Backlot at Disney’s California Adventure Park includes an homage to Wright with Living area based on the Host design.
