22. Tatami carpet in Japanese Interior
In traditional Japanese houses, their floors are polished hardwood. Even though they took off their shoes to avoid scratching the floor, the tatami mat still provided extra cushioning for the room’s base. This is usually done in a space where people will lie down to sleep, kneel, or sit down to eat. Unlike carpets and rugs, these rugs can be picked up and cleaned very quickly as they are so light and easy to move.
