Fines up to $4,300 for Noisy Offenders

In response to the rising issue of disruptive beachgoer behavior, Portugal’s National Maritime Authority has taken a decisive stance by imposing a ban on portable speakers playing music at volumes that can disturb fellow sunbathers. The agency expressed its determination to address this growing problem and enhance its efforts to ensure a serene beach experience for all.

According to reports by the Portugal Residents, the new rule specifically states, “The use of sound equipment and engagement in noise-generating activities that may cause discomfort are prohibited on the beaches.” While the precise definition of what constitutes “too loud” remains unspecified, visitors are advised to exercise caution to avoid facing a $218 fine. Opting for headphones or savoring the soothing sounds of the ocean may prove to be the more prudent choice for those seeking an enjoyable beach vacation.
