Toilet Paper Isn’t Used

When visiting Thailand for the first time, you might encounter a significant difference in the toilets. Instead of traditional toilets, you’ll often find squat toilets placed on the ground. These squat toilets are considered more ergonomic, reducing strain and potentially shortening the time spent in the bathroom.

In addition to the difference in toilet design, it’s important to note that toilet paper may not be commonly provided in Thai toilets. If you find toilet paper, remember to dispose of used pieces in the trash bin next to the toilet, as flushing toilet paper can cause plumbing issues in some places. If toilet paper is not available, you will typically find a showerhead or a bidet hose provided for cleaning yourself. This unique experience of using squat toilets and different bathroom practices is part of the cultural immersion you may encounter during your trip to Thailand.
