Do Not Touch the Head
While playfully ruffling someone’s hair might be seen as a friendly gesture in some cultures, it is essential to know that such actions are inappropriate in Thailand. The head is considered sacred and the body’s most spiritually significant part. Consequently, touching anyone else’s head, even children’s, is considered impolite and disrespectful.
Additionally, Thai people are generally not very physically affectionate in public. Public displays of affection, such as holding hands or kissing, are not commonly observed among couples. To avoid offending, it is advisable to refrain from initiating physical contact while interacting with Thai people. Keeping your hands to yourself is a sign of respect and cultural sensitivity.
