Giving Red Fanta to Spirits
During your visit to Thailand, you’ll likely encounter various shrine houses known as Spirit Houses. These Spirit Houses are not associated with Buddhism but are built to accommodate the displaced Earth spirit, Chao Thi.
In Thai culture, there is a belief in land spirits that watch over and protect the land. To show respect and gratitude to these spirits, people construct Spirit Houses and offer them gifts. One common offering you might notice is a bottle of Red Fanta soda. While the exact reason for this choice is not well-defined, many speculate that red is considered a lucky color in Thai culture, hence the preference for Red Fanta as an offering.
