Concealing Her True Self
Growing increasingly aware that many of her opportunities in Hollywood were attributed to her physical appearance, Marilyn became intensely self-conscious.
To sustain her public persona and, consequently, her success, she concealed certain aspects of her true self. For instance, she loved reading and wore glasses, but she chose to keep these facts hidden from the public eye. As a result, she rarely, if ever, appeared wearing glasses in front of her adoring fans.
