Making a Return
It’s highly likely that this woman simply needed to place her sleeping child down for a moment. Perhaps her arms were weary, or she required both hands for something at the checkout counter. However, it’s more amusing to consider the possibility that she’s either returning or purchasing the child. In any case, this is one of those situations where the cashier probably should intervene with a polite request like, “Ma’am, please refrain from doing that.”
