Sad Keanu
Keanu Reeves, known for his roles in The Matrix and John Wick trilogy, has a reputation for being a genuinely nice person. However, a paparazzi photo of him looking glum while eating a sandwich on a New York City bench in 2010 inspired the “sad Keanu” meme.
The meme became so popular that Reeves was asked about it in a 2011 interview with the BBC. Despite the meme, Reeves has continued to act and is currently working on The Matrix 4, in which he will reprise his role as Neo.
One Does Not Simply
The popularity of the “One does not simply walk into Mordor” meme may have overshadowed the impact of the Lord of the Rings film itself. The iconic line, spoken by Sean Bean’s character Boromir, has become a cultural phenomenon and a staple in internet humor. The meme is often used to express the idea that a task or challenge is not as simple as it may seem and has been applied to a variety of contexts beyond the realm of Middle-earth.
Despite his character’s unfortunate fate in the film, Sean Bean is a celebrated actor with an extensive filmography. He is known for playing complex characters who often meet tragic ends, such as Ned Stark in Game of Thrones and Alec Trevelyan in Goldeneye. Currently, Bean is working on the television series Snowpiercer, which is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the last remnants of humanity live on a perpetually-moving train.
Willy Wonka
The character of Willy Wonka has left an indelible mark on popular culture, and the famous meme based on the character is a testament to that fact. Gene Wilder, who played the role of Willy Wonka in the 1971 adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, delivered some of the most memorable lines and moments of the film, including the “Condescending Wonka” meme. The meme features a still image of Wilder as Wonka with captions that are often sarcastic or condescending in tone, poking fun at various aspects of society and everyday life.
While Wilder will always be best remembered for his iconic portrayal of Willy Wonka, he had a long and successful career in entertainment, spanning several decades. In addition to acting in films such as Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles, he also wrote and directed several movies and wrote a number of books. Wilder was also a talented singer-songwriter and performed on stage in a number of Broadway productions. Though he passed away in 2016, his legacy continues to live on through his work and the countless fans who adore him.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the most famous actors of our time, has become a frequent subject of memes thanks to his memorable performances in several blockbuster movies. One of the most popular memes involving DiCaprio comes from his portrayal of the character Calvin Candie in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. In the scene, DiCaprio delivers an unsettling monologue with great intensity, making it a perfect fodder for the meme-makers. However, DiCaprio’s acting skills go far beyond his ability to inspire memes, as he has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in The Revenant.
Besides his acting work, DiCaprio is also a prominent environmental activist. He established the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 to support environmental causes, and he has been vocal about the need to address climate change and protect natural resources. In addition, he serves on the board of several organizations that promote environmental sustainability, and he has produced several documentaries about environmental issues, including Before the Flood and Ice on Fire. Despite his busy schedule, DiCaprio continues to use his platform to raise awareness about the importance of preserving our planet for future generations.
Gavin
Gavin, a child from Atlanta, Georgia, rose to internet stardom after appearing in several Vine videos created by Nick Mastodon, a popular Vine star. His facial expressions and reactions in these videos garnered a lot of attention, and Gavin quickly became a viral celebrity.
Due to his ability to display a wide range of emotions on his face, Gavin’s images have been used frequently as a reaction meme to convey surprise, confusion, and disbelief. Many internet users refer to him as “the internet’s kid” since they have been able to watch him grow up on social media platforms over the years. Despite his young age, Gavin’s fame has earned him numerous opportunities, including appearances on popular television shows like Ellen and Good Morning America.
Ermahgerd
Memes have been criticized for their impact on the English language, with concerns that they contribute to a degradation of the language. In fact, some memes have become so popular that they are being considered for inclusion in dictionaries. One such example is “ermahgerd,” a rhotacized pronunciation of “oh my god,” which has gained widespread use and recognition.
Ironically, the origins of this particular meme can be traced back to a post by Maggie Goldenberger in 2012, when she was in the fourth or fifth grade. In the post, she held up a Goosebumps book and wrote, “Just a book owner’s smile…” The post did not indicate whether she was being sarcastic or genuine about her love of the book series. Nonetheless, the photo and accompanying text quickly became viral, with users sharing and remixing it with the now-familiar “ermahgerd” caption.
