2. The Biltmore Estate

The Biltmore Estate is the biggest privately-owned resident in the United States. It was built for the industrialist George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895 in Asheville, North Carolina at over 170,000 square. Vanderbilt descendants are still the owner of this property.

The estate was built with French chateau-style. Due to its massive construction, they even had to build brick factories on-site to support the enormous project. The place has become the most famous examples of the Gilded Age mansions in the country.
