For Vanderbilt, one of the wealthiest families in the Gilded Age of unregulated American prosperity, owning Biltmore Estate would not be enough. Cornelius Vanderbilt II built their second summer home -The Breakers – Newport, Rhode Island from 1893 and 1895,

The property was a product of the famous architect Richard Morris Hunt. Expanding over 120,000 square feet, the living space of the Vanderbilt family followed the Italian Renaissance aesthetic. For the interior, they recruit Parisian design house of Jules Allard and Sons.
