22. Use One Container to Consolidate Food and Spices

Let’s move on to the next kitchen organization ways! When you have two or more containers of the same food item, one of the most common storage issues arises. For instance, suppose you were about to run out of cereal and decided to buy a second box. Instead of making two cereal boxes, pour the smaller amount into the new package if there is enough room. If you haven’t done so already, this is a free and easy way to increase your pantry size. Only keep an eye on the food’s expiration dates!

Another choice is to purchase a transparent airtight container in which to bundle food packages. For example, we often buy small bags of rice in my house because it’s something we cook frequently. It also keeps for a long time as a dry good, so we don’t have to worry about expiration dates. We have an airtight container full of rice instead of storing several bags in the cabinets or fridge. We dump a new load into the bottle as soon as we get it. Since all rice looks the same, it makes no difference which brand we buy.
